On the last day of my trip down south I spent some time doing plein air pastel paintings on the golf course while the guys played. My husband has always told me that golfcourses are the perfect spot to do pastel landscapes. but this is the first time I’d tried it. I sure got some funny looks from the golfers on their carts!

I saw this flag flapping in breeze in front of an old farmhouse today. I sat in the shade under a huge old oak tree with Roxy at my side. Halfway through the painting, the owner came by and gave me a little background about the area. He told me that this farmhouse, built in 1906, is the second one on this plot of land. The original home was built in the 1840s on 180 acres. Now there is only a crumbling rock foundation left to mark the spot where the pioneer German family homesteaded.

I just love learning the history behind these old places!

Thought I’d post another one of the plein air watercolor paintings I did on our main street in Saline. I love all these old homes and the tons of history behind them. They’ve started renovating a lot of them and they just sparkle from the curb!
