I’ve always liked doing architecture paintings, whether in pastel or watercolor. And I especially love extreme close-ups, where I can play with the idea of realism breaking down into an almost abstract composition. I’m not positive, but I think this storefront was on the main street of Charlevoix, Michigan where we spend time in the spring. But it really doesn’t matter exactly where it was. It could be a scene from any town or city in America.

This is a watercolor painting of one of the beautiful old houses on our hometown main street. I love this old Victorian home and have also painted a large pastel of just the front porch called Golden Light. The original is still for sale and giclee prints are also available. This old architecture reminds me of a simpler, slower pace of life.

Thought I’d post another one of the plein air watercolor paintings I did on our main street in Saline. I love all these old homes and the tons of history behind them. They’ve started renovating a lot of them and they just sparkle from the curb!
