After painting the landscape at Weller’s that I posted a few days ago, I shifted my position and did a pastel drawing of the scene from a slightly different viewpoint. This scene incorporates more of the river and is in a vertical format. Same woods, rocks and tree but completely different effect.  Its amazing the number of compositions you can create from the same subject matter…

Back from a wonderful trip down south. A little cold and windy but MUCH better than the bitter cold in Michigan right now. I painted a lot of plein air pastel paintings in Florida over the last week and will post them soon.

I finished this pastel landscape just before we left on our trip. Mill Creek wanders through Saline and the city’s parks. In this piece I wanted to capture the contrast between the light-filled, early morning mist and the vibrant patch of sunlight in the foreground.

So proud to have 2 pastel paintings in the first “Art on the House” exhibit at the State Capital Building in Lansing Michigan. The series of 4 exhibits will be created by the Washtenaw County Arts Alliance and placed in the State Capitol by the suggestion of Representative Pam Byrnes, who is State House Representative and Speaker Pro Temp. The exhibits will display and promote the exceptional work being produced by visual artists living and working in Michigan. The great people at the River Gallery in Chelsea are helping to coordinate the series.

YAHOO!!!! Finally nice enough to get outside to do plein aire work in Michigan! It was a stunning 82 degrees today and all of the grasses and trees are turning green. I stopped by Curtis Park in Saline and happily set up my supplies among the dog walkers to paint this pastel landscape of our local mill. Its no longer functional, but Wellers has become THE spot to have your wedding or private party. The grounds are beautiful and are adjacent to the park.

Its supposed to be cloudy tomorrow but I might brave the weather for some watercolor landscapes plein aire…
